WinDC has entered a strategic partnership with Yirigaa to accelerate the rollout of sovereign, renewable-powered AI infrastructure across regional Australia. The collaboration aims to unlock new digital capability, economic growth, and export potential beyond traditional metropolitan data centre hubs.
The partnership combines WinDC’s modular, high-density AI data centres deployed directly at renewable energy generation sites with Yirigaa’s nationally recognised expertise in workforce development, cybersecurity, and community-led project delivery. Together, the organisations plan to expand advanced AI infrastructure into regional markets, ensuring benefits extend beyond major cities.

Australia is currently experiencing rising renewable energy curtailment due to grid congestion and transmission constraints. WinDC’s model addresses this by colocating compute infrastructure at the source of renewable generation, converting otherwise stranded clean energy into high-value AI processing capacity and digital export capability. Through its partnership with Yirigaa, the initiative is designed to ensure long-term employment and economic outcomes for regional and First Nations communities.
Andrew Sjoquist, Founder and CEO of WinDC, said the future of Australia’s AI capability depends on where and how infrastructure is built. He noted that traditional models, which concentrate advanced compute in metropolitan areas competing for limited grid capacity, are increasingly costly and inefficient compared to locating infrastructure near abundant, low-cost renewable power. Jonathan Staff, Executive Director of WinDC, added that moving compute to power sources reduces strain on the grid and accelerates deployment timelines, while the partnership with Yirigaa strengthens the model through local workforce development and community engagement.

Under the agreement, Yirigaa will support operations and scaling of WinDC’s renewable-powered AI facilities by delivering workforce training, accreditation, and employment pathways in AI, cybersecurity, digital infrastructure, and data centre management. Initiatives include school-to-career programs through Yirigaa’s YARN (Yirigaa Academy Recruitment Network), training partnerships with NSW TAFE, and place-based employment aligned with Closing the Gap priorities.
Yawun Mundine (Bundjalung–Wiradjuri), Founder and Group Executive CEO of Yirigaa, said the partnership focuses on creating tangible career pathways in future-facing industries for regional and First Nations communities.
The collaboration aligns with federal and state priorities around renewable energy, sovereign digital capability, regional development, and national security. WinDC’s infrastructure is designed to deliver zero-scope-2-emissions AI compute, while Yirigaa contributes an ISO 27001-certified, security-cleared workforce and DISP membership to support national standards for critical digital infrastructure.
