TestGorilla Introduces Skills-Based AI Video Interviews to Streamline Hiring

October 7, 2025
Event

TestGorilla, the talent discovery platform, has launched skills-based AI video interviews designed to replace traditional manual screening calls. Available in both one-way and conversational formats, the AI-driven interviews evaluate job-relevant skills and behaviors, using explainable AI to score responses against expert-developed criteria. This allows recruiters to shortlist candidates more efficiently and with greater confidence.

The company’s in-house Science and IP teams, comprised of PhDs in psychometrics and industrial-organizational psychology, developed and validated the interview questions and scoring rubrics in collaboration with subject-matter experts. This ensures fairness, predictive accuracy, and consistency across the talent pool. Recruiters retain full control and can edit or override AI-generated scores, ensuring the final hiring decision remains human-led.

Hiring teams are overwhelmed with AI-enhanced applications, making it harder to identify genuine skills,” said Claudia Baijens, VP of Product at TestGorilla. “Manual screening calls are often subjective, time-consuming, and inconsistent. Our AI interviews provide structured, skills-based assessments so recruiters can focus on connecting with top talent efficiently.”

Two Interview Formats to Meet Diverse Needs

One-way Interviews: Candidates record responses at their convenience, ideal for high-volume screening. Recruiters can select expert-designed, role-specific questions or customize their own. AI instantly scores answers against skills-based rubrics, enabling fair and consistent comparisons while eliminating scheduling challenges.

Conversational Interviews: A skills-trained AI persona conducts live interviews lasting 6–20 minutes, asking follow-ups to probe role-specific and behavioral skills. Two tracks are available:

  • Role-Specific: Over 100 pre-built interviews tailored for specific roles, blending behavioral, situational, and experience-based questions.

  • Behavioral: Interviews targeting one of 21 validated behavioral competencies from TestGorilla’s Behavioral Competency Profiler (BCP), ensuring structured soft-skills evaluation.

What Differentiates TestGorilla

  • Science-Backed, Skills-First Design: Interview content and scoring rubrics are developed by TestGorilla’s IP and Science teams and grounded in validated behavioral and role-specific frameworks for reliability and predictive accuracy.

  • Transparent, Recruiter-Controlled Scoring: Each response receives a 0–5 score with a clear rationale. Recruiters can review recordings, transcripts, and override scores as needed. The system provides explainable, auditable results rather than opaque AI judgments.

  • Unified Candidate Evaluation: AI interview results integrate seamlessly into the TestGorilla platform, allowing hiring teams to review skills assessments and interview outcomes in a single, holistic view of each candidate.
