Nisos has found that there are four main indicators of insider threat which companies should be monitoring to safeguard valuable assets and maintain organizational trust:

• Workplace Conflicts - Individuals who were identified as insider threats frequently shared examples of growing tensions with management or coworkers on social media. These posts frequently occurred following negative performance reviews.
• Polywork - Employees who worked multiple full time roles were found to share sensitive company data or code between the two companies to reduce their workload.
• Data Collection - Individuals may start collecting large amounts of company data or code into private repositories. Many often openly post about their efforts to copy code from previous employers - and share their attempts to circumvent security measures, including taking screenshots.
• Financial Pressures - Many employees identified as insider threats face unusual financial stress or sudden changes in financial circumstances; common examples include difficulties paying for car repairs or school bills.
